Our Story
Fifteen years of crafting broadcast environments that inform, entertain, and inspire.
Founded on Craftsmanship
snug-moor began in 2011 when a small group of scenic artists and set designers recognised an opportunity to bring theatrical craftsmanship to the television industry. What started in a modest workshop in East London has grown into one of the UK's most respected television set design studios.
Our founders brought decades of combined experience from West End theatre, film production, and live events. This diverse background shaped our approach: we treat every project as an opportunity to create something meaningful, regardless of scale or budget.
What Guides Us
Collaboration First
We listen before we design. Understanding your vision, audience, and constraints enables us to create sets that truly serve your production.
Technical Excellence
Every element must work on camera. We obsess over how lighting interacts with surfaces, how colours translate through lenses, and how structures hold up under studio conditions.
Practical Innovation
We embrace new materials and techniques when they solve real problems, not simply for novelty. Innovation should make productions smoother, not more complicated.
Our Team
Today, snug-moor employs twenty-three full-time staff including designers, carpenters, scenic painters, and project managers. We also maintain relationships with specialist contractors for metalwork, electronics integration, and large-format printing.
Many of our team members have been with us for over a decade. This continuity means institutional knowledge stays within the company, and clients benefit from working with experienced professionals who understand the nuances of television production.
How We Work
Discovery
We begin by understanding your programme's identity, audience demographics, technical requirements, and budgetary parameters.
Concept Development
Our designers create initial concepts that explore different directions. We present these with mood boards, sketches, and references to align on creative direction.
Technical Design
Once a concept is approved, we develop detailed technical drawings, material specifications, and construction schedules.
Fabrication
Our workshop team builds and finishes all scenic elements, with regular check-ins to ensure quality and alignment with design intent.
Installation
We deliver and install sets in your studio, working closely with your technical team to ensure everything integrates properly with lighting and camera systems.
